NEW! National Child Day – Conventions on the Rights of the Child
November 20th was National Child Day which celebrates the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the adoption of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child in 1989. We will explore how we, as early childhood educators, do our part to support the rights of all children in our care. We will look at the story of Shannen Koostachin who had a dream about making sure that First Nations children and youth have the same educational opportunities. We will discuss how we, as a society, are meeting the rights of Indigenous children.
Using the Conventions on the Rights of the Child we will focus on the 4 groups of rights for children and how we meet these in our early childhood spaces;
- Survival Rights
- Development Rights
- Protection rights
- Participation rights
