SUMMARY:NEW! Fostering Autonomy\, Agency and Independence in the Early Years!
DESCRIPTION:Fostering Autonomy\, Agency and Independence in the Early Years! Empowering Young Children Through Choice\, Voice\, and Confident Action \nThis dynamic and thought-provoking workshop explores how early childhood educators can intentionally nurture autonomy\, agency\, and independence in young children. Grounded in the principles of rights-based\, responsive pedagogy\, participants are invited to reflect deeply on their current practices and beliefs\, examining how this impacts the ways children experience choice\, voice\, and freedom in their daily lives. Participants are provoked to examine how everyday moments—such as routines\, transitions\, and play—can become powerful opportunities for children to make choices\, express themselves\, and develop confidence in their abilities. \nTogether\, we explore how fostering agency is not about giving children control over everything\, but rather co-creating an environment where children are seen as capable\, competent\, and powerful contributors to their own learning and community. Through storytelling\, reflective dialogue\, and practical examples\, educators are encouraged to think critically about their role in co-creating environments that promote children’s voices and participation. The session highlights that autonomy and agency are not simply outcomes to achieve\, but ongoing processes that unfold through responsive relationships\, shared decision-making\, and meaningful engagement. Educators will feel empowered to transform everyday moments into meaningful opportunities for children to lead\, make choices\, and be recognized as confident\, competent members of their learning. \nWorkshop Goals: \n\nUnderstanding independence\, autonomy\, collective autonomy and agency\nStrategies to support children’s development of independence\, autonomy and agency\nDesign environments\, routines\, and relationships that actively support children’s growing autonomy and sense of capability.\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nPD funding and RT funding available to eligible participants.\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:NEW! Cultivating Safety in Early Childhood Programs: Responsive & Reflective Active Supervision
DESCRIPTION:Cultivating Safety in Early Childhood Programs: Responsive & Reflective Active Supervision \nActive supervision is more than watching children—it is an intentional\, relational\, and reflective practice that honours the image of the child as capable\, resourceful\, and worthy of safety\, trust\, and belonging. In this workshop\, safety is explored through a three-fold lens: physical\, mental\, and emotional. Participants will examine how responsive\, active supervision nurtures children’s well-being across all three dimensions while supporting their right to play\, explore\, and take developmentally appropriate risks. Through collaborative dialogue\, scenario analysis\, and guided reflection\, participants will examine how active supervision is woven into the everyday moments of play and relational care. Educators will create intentional action plans to overcome supervision obstacles in their day-to-day practices. Educators will leave with enhanced strategies\, refined practices\, and a practical Supervision Action Plan tailored to their early learning and childcare environment. \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nDevelop an individualized Supervision Action Plan that supports safe\, intentional\, and responsive early learning environments.\nEnhance policies and practices to strengthen the implementation of active supervision strategies.\nDeepen confidence and competence in noticing\, interpreting\, and responding to children’s play and interactions in ways that uphold their rights\, agency\, and well-being.\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nPD funding and RT funding available to eligible participants.\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:Curiosity and Wonder of Treasure Baskets: Infant and Toddler Play Explorations
DESCRIPTION:Curiosity and Wonder of Treasure Baskets: Infant and Toddler Play Explorations \nInfants and Toddlers explore the world around them with awe and wonder. They explore with a zest for curiosity and exploration. They deserve an environment that supports this natural process of learning. They deserve Play! Creating responsive environments for infants and toddlers is slightly different then how we would create a responsive environment for older children. We need to take into consideration their physical\, sensory and neurological needs. One of the most impactful ways of supporting infants and toddlers in their play explorations is through heuristic play and treasure baskets! This approach fosters hands-on\, self-directed play experiences that enable children to delve deeply into their own learning process. Let’s discuss what heuristic play is and how we can create treasure baskets and sensory experiences that are meaningful and relevant for our young learners. Participants will develop an awareness of this approach to play and engage in reflective practices and discussions about how they can make children’s learning visible. Go beyond a basic infant toddler space and create a space of magic\, wonder and inspiration! \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nIdentify the Importance of Play for Infants and Toddlers\nHeuristic Play Approach\nCreating Treasure Baskets\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nPD funding and RT funding available to eligible participants.\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:Observing Play with Intention: Enriching your Skills in Observations with the Emergent Curriculum Approach
DESCRIPTION:Observing Play with Intention: Enriching your Skills in Observations with the Emergent Curriculum Approach \nEver take the time to sit back and simply observe children playing? The conversations they have\, even by themselves. They show curiosity when they are exploring something new. The expressions of satisfaction when they are deep in thought in play and when they reach a personal goal. These observations of play tell us so much about the children’s perspective and learning journey\, that we need to write this down and capture it! There are so many discoveries and ‘ah-ha’ moments throughout the day that it’s sometimes difficult for us to figure out what to write down though. So let’s learn together as we discuss strategies of intentional observations and practice how to conduct intentional observations that assist us in enriching our environment by implementing Play and the emergent curriculum approach. \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nIdentify the roots to the emergent curriculum approach\nReview tips and tricks for effective observations\nImplement strategies to improve observation techniques\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nPD funding and RT funding available to eligible participants.\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:NEW! Nurturing Self-Regulation in Early Childhood: Co-Regulation\, Connection and Calming Practices for Big Emotions
DESCRIPTION:Nurturing Self-Regulation in Early Childhood: Co-Regulation\, Connection and Calming Practices for Big Emotions \nYoung children experience big emotions\, rapid transitions\, and stressors they cannot yet name or manage on their own. This interactive workshop—rooted in Stuart Shanker’s self-regulation approach—helps educators understand the roots of stress behaviour\, the difference between misbehaviour and stress responses\, and the essential role of co-regulation in fostering emotional safety. \nGrounded in the belief that play thrives when children feel safe\, regulated\, and connected\, this workshop highlights how co-regulation and supportive environments lay the foundation for both well-being and meaningful play. Through hands-on activities\, reflection\, and practical demonstrations\, educators will learn how to create spaces where children can return to calm\, re-engage in play\, and build the emotional resilience needed for healthy development. \nParticipants will design calming kits\, plan intentional calming spaces\, and develop personalized co-regulation action plans that enhance daily routines. By the end\, educators will feel equipped to nurture environments that support self-regulation\, strengthen relationships\, and promote both well-being and joyful\, confident play. \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nDevelop a foundational understanding of self-regulation and stress behaviour across the five domains (biological\, emotional\, cognitive\, social\, and prosocial).\nEnhance co-regulation practices by learning how adult presence\, tone\, environment\, and attuned responses help children feel safe\, supported\, and ready to engage in play.\nCreate practical tools—calming kits\, calming spaces\, and a co-regulation action plan that collectively support children’s wellbeing and empower them to return to calm and re-enter play with confidence.\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nPD funding and RT funding available to eligible participants.\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. Pop-Up Play Workshops are designed to be accessible and impactful\, offering practical strategies that can be immediately applied in early learning environments. \nWith a focus on play-based pedagogy\, children’s rights\, and educator well-being\, Pop-Up Play Workshops provide a welcoming space to connect\, reflect\, and re-ignite joy in practice—without the commitment of a full conference or long-term series. Whether you’re exploring sensory play\,  intentional environments\, outdoor learning\,  or educator wellness\, each Pop-Up Play Workshop offers a fresh opportunity to connect with play and community. \n📅 Pop-Up Play Workshop Schedule \n🕙 Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM \n\nSaturday\, March 21 | Elevating Sensory Play: Designing Multidimensional and Immersive Sensory Play Experiences | 📍 Location: Global Aware Kids Care – Summerside\, 109\, 1103 95th Street SW\, Edmonton \n\nSensory play is far more than sand and water—it is a dynamic\, responsive\, and imagination-fuelled learning experience for young children. In this hands-on workshop\, educators will explore how to add depth\, height\, movement\, and meaning to traditional sensory tables to create multidimensional environments that spark curiosity and support holistic development. Participants will investigate new strategies that extend beyond the basics: vertical and horizontal sensory invitations\, immersive sensory experiences\, and sensory pathways that respond to children’s emerging interests. Grounded in research\, early learning and child care frameworks\, play pedagogy\, and emergent practices\, this session highlights how thoughtfully designed sensory experiences nurture children’s problem-solving\, emotional expression\, language development\, and connection to the world around them. Educators will engage in active exploration — yes\, you will get messy! — to inspire creativity\, deepen professional reflection\, and cultivate environments where children thrive through play.\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, June 13 | Build it Up: Designing Creative Play Spaces | 📍 Location: TBA\nSaturday\, September 12| Listening to the Land: Deepening Nature Play Through Land-Based and Place-Based Practices | 📍 Location: TBA\nSaturday\, November 28 | Exploring Hygge: Creating Spaces that Foster Happiness\, a Sense of Belonging and Togetherness | 📍 Location: TBA\n\n✨ What to Expect \nWhen you join an Inspired Minds ECC Pop-Up Play Workshop\, you can expect: \n\nIn-person\, hands-on learning rooted in play-based practice\nA focused topic at each pop-up\, inspired by educator interests and current trends\nInteractive play experiences using open-ended materials and invitations to play\nReflective discussions and collaborative professional dialogue\nPractical strategies & take-away ideas you can use right away\nA welcoming\, supportive environment that values curiosity\, connection\, and joy\nConnection with educators from your local community and beyond\nLight snacks to keep the energy going\n\n📝 Things You Should Know \n\nPre-registration is required for all Pop-Up Play Workshops. SUMMARY:No Waiting! Get Them Shaking! Exploring and Extending Engaging Transitions
DESCRIPTION:No Waiting! Get Them Shaking! Exploring and Extending Engaging Transitions \nI can picture it as clearly as if it were happening right now—children wiggling\, climbing\, and weaving around one another as we navigate snow pants\, jackets\, and boots. The scene feels chaotic\, overwhelming… and all too familiar. Transitions are hard. Whether it’s the legendary “clean-up time\,” heading outdoors\, coming back inside\, shifting from lunch to rest time\, or supporting new children as they adjust to group care\, transitions often challenge even the most seasoned educators. \nBut they don’t have to. When we pause\, become present\, and approach transitions with intentionality\, we can transform these moments from stressful to successful—for both educators and children. Young children are not designed to sit still and wait; they are designed to move\, explore\, and connect. So how do we create transitions that honour their needs\, spark engagement\, and strengthen relationships? How do we shift transitions from a time of direction-giving to a time of meaningful connection? \nIn this workshop\, we will explore practical\, engaging strategies that help children navigate transitions with confidence and joy. Together\, we’ll reflect on our daily schedules\, examine how routines shape transition success\, and discover playful tools that educators can implement immediately. And yes—we’ll sing\, play\, and dance our way through brand-new transition ideas designed to capture children’s attention and ignite their imagination. \nLet’s rethink transitions together. Let’s connect. Let’s play. Let’s do this! \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nEstablish an understanding of why effective transitions are important to child development.\nIdentify strategies that support the 3 phases of effective transitions – before\, during and after.\nDevelop a daily visual routine for children to help them with transitions.\nLearn new transition songs\, games and tools to use during transitions.\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nPD funding and RT funding available to eligible participants.\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. Please click the link 10 minutes before the workshop begins to join in.\nAll tickets are non-refundable. SUMMARY:The Third Teacher: Creating Responsive Environments to Support Children’s Behaviours
DESCRIPTION:The Third Teacher: Creating Responsive Environments to Support Children’s Behaviours \nChildren experience big feelings and have big actions to communicate these feelings with the people around them. It’s important that early childhood educators create an environment that is safe\, physically\, mentally\, and emotionally\, for children to learn about these emotions and discover ways to express these emotions.  This is where the third teacher – our early learning environments- can help! By knowing what works for each child\, we can create spaces and routines that help them feel safe to explore and express these emotions without negative outcomes. We all understand that this is a learning process for children\, so why don’t we engage in proactive strategies that support them on their learning journey? In this workshop\, we will look at the four key components of creating responsive environments: routines\, transitions\, play spaces and engagement. Since one strategy doesn’t work for each child\, every time\, we will brainstorm a variety of strategies and approaches you can add to your behavioural support toolkit! Let’s look to our environments for help! \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nIdentify the important role environments have on children’s behaviours\nIdentify strategies to support four key components of responsive environments: Routines ~ Transitions ~ Play Spaces ~ Engagement\nReflect on current practices and create action steps to move forward with creating responsive environments.\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:Playful Planning: Exploring the Planning Process with the Emergent Curriculum Approach
DESCRIPTION:Playful Planning: Exploring the Planning Process with the Emergent Curriculum Approach \nPlayful learning experiences promote a sense of curiosity\, exploration\, and confidence\, which are what we all strive to achieve when we plan for our early childhood environment and our children’s experiences. One of the most popular and best approaches to achieve this is the emergent curriculum approach. This approach lets the child lead the playful experiences and follow their own learning path. Our job\, as early childhood educators\, is to observe their interests and plan to either complement or extend these interests. Being intentional about how we prepare a responsive environment is a key element to emergent planning. How we plan activities\, play experiences\, provocations and invitations and make changes to our environment all depends on the dynamics of our group of children and our ability to really listen\, observe and learn about the children’s deeper interests and abilities. Let us walk alongside the children and join them in their journeys of wonder\, play and curiosity. Join me as we discuss planning strategies that work for everyone. There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to planning for children’s play\, so let’s explore what your journey is with the children and how you can plan for play! \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nReview Emergent Planning Practices\nIdentify Planning Strategies based on the Balanced Approach to Emergent Planning\nTranslating Observations to Playful Planning\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. DESCRIPTION:NEW! Listening to the Land: Deepening Nature Play Through Land-Based and Place-Based Practices \nThis workshop invites early childhood educators to deepen their understanding of land-based and place-based learning as vital components of high-quality early learning. SUMMARY:The Journey of Learning: Reflective Practices of an Early Childhood Professional
DESCRIPTION:The Journey of Learning: Reflective Practices of an Early Childhood Professional \nOne of the most impactful strategies I have learned as an early childhood educator is how to reflect on my practices. This is not something I did much of in my early years as an educator. After all\, I was simply trying to survive and just at the beginning of my journey as an educator. However\, I wish I had done more of this essential practice when I started as it has immensely helped me grow as a professional early childhood educator. I wish I had a community of practice to share ideas and perspectives. So\, here we are to support you – wherever you are on your journey as an ECE. Reflective practices can be done in a variety of ways. From quick\, on-the-spot reflections to deeper and collaborative reflective practices\, there’s something out there for each and every one of us. Join us as we discover the pathways of learning through reflective practices and how we can diversify our approach and build our metacognition. We will explore reflective practices as an individual\, as a team and within a community of practices. Discover practical ways to increase this invaluable tool that we have at our fingertips and how to maximize our outcomes of reflection to apply to our practices. \nWorkshop Goals\nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nIdentify reflections as an integral part of professional practices\nIdentify strategies to support reflective practices\nGain knowledge about how to diversify reflective practices\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:Know No No’s: Understanding Positive Guidance Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Know No No’s: Understanding Positive Guidance Strategies (3 hours) \nEver wonder WHY some children react in ways we just don’t understand? The screaming\, biting and hitting came from nowhere! When a seemingly small situation throws them right into a major meltdown. Feeling like you’re at a standstill of what to do next? Well\, then this professional learning day is for you! Join us as we discuss the whys behind children’s difficult and challenging behaviours and how we can support them during these difficult moments. Let’s begin this journey with identifying some co-regulation strategies that work for the children in your care! \nNow that we understand these big feelings and have big actions that children are using to communicate these feelings with the people around them. \nFinally\, what do we do when children still engage in conflict…despite everything we’ve done to be proactive? Conflict is something that we all experience on a daily basis. We all have our own perceptions and experiences and opinions\, and with children…these opinions can get very vocal! It’s up to us\, the adults in their lives\, to facilitate how to resolve conflicts constructively so that our children can grow into success problem solvers and engage in healthy conflicts! Let’s bring our calm to their chaos and help children (and each other) on this journey of success and understanding! \nWorkshop Goals \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nIdentify behaviours and how they relate to communication.\nDefine positive guidance and how it affects child development and resiliency.\nIncrease knowledge of how positive supports/preventative measures\, such as\, co-regulation strategies and creating a responsive environment.\nDevelop key strategies for using positive guidance to support children during challenging behaviours (intervention strategies).\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:NEW! Elevating Sensory Play: Designing Multidimensional and Immersive Sensory Play Experiences
DESCRIPTION:NEW! Elevating Sensory Play: Designing Multidimensional and Immersive Sensory Play Experiences \nSensory play is far more than sand and water—it is a dynamic\, responsive\, and imagination-fuelled learning experience for young children. \nGrounded in research\, early learning and child care frameworks\, play pedagogy\, and emergent practices\, this session highlights how thoughtfully designed sensory experiences nurture children’s problem-solving\, emotional expression\, language development\, and connection to the world around them. Educators will engage in active exploration — yes\, you will get messy! — to inspire creativity\, deepen professional reflection\, and cultivate environments where children thrive through play. \nWorkshop Goals\nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nDesign sensory-rich\, multidimensional play experiences that extend beyond traditional materials\, adding complexity\, intention\, and open-ended possibilities.\nStrengthen observation and responsive planning skills to create sensory invitations aligned with children’s interests\, developmental needs\, and ELCC professional practices.\nEnhance understanding of play pedagogy by connecting sensory play to holistic learning domains\, wellbeing\, and the educator’s role as co-creator of meaningful play environments.\n\nThings to Keep in Mind: \n\nRegistration closes 24 hours in advance!\nCertificate of participation will be available to registered participants.\nAll registered participants will have 30 days access to the webinar recording.\nThis workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.\nYou will need access to a smartphone\, laptop\, tablet or computer with audio capabilities to join us.\nA link will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to the workshop.
